Memphis Grizzlies’ rookie Ziarie Williams talks about and shares his feelings on matching up with LeBron James for the first time
With the 10th pick in the NBA Draft, the Memphis Grizzlies selected Ziarie Williams. The Grizzlies’ rookie, fresh out of Stanford, has been around NBA players for a long time. The 6’9 rookie has an impressive wingspan and is a thorough lockdown 3 and D player.

The Grizzlies rookie has been around stars ever since his High School days. Having played in Sierra Canyon, he shared the floor with Zaire Wade and Bronny James. Thanks to that, he has met both Dwyane Wade and LeBron James in his school. He calls them ‘Uncle D-Wade’ and ‘Uncle LeBron’. It was then when he developed a bond with both the stars, and now, he is soon bound to face off against his ‘Uncle Bron’.
Ziarie Williams talks about facing off against LeBron James
It wasn’t too long ago that Ziarie Williams was taking the court with Bronny James. The two were teammates at Sierra Canyon for a year, and LeBron James was on the sidelines, cheering them on. It has barely been a year and a half since his last High School game, and now Ziarie is in the NBA.
A media personality asked Ziarie about his thoughts on facing LeBron James in the league. It was then when it actually hit Ziarie what he has accomplished.
“Oh man, that’s going to be a crazy night, man, for real,” Williams said. “That’s crazy, that really just hit me right now. I’m really going to play LeBron.”
Having known Dwyane Wade and LeBron James since his high school times, Williams is sure enough to not get star-struck now. He recalls how it was like to meet them for the first time.
“When I first met them, of course I was almost like, starstruck,” Williams added, talking about LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. “The moment you meet them, you forget honestly who they are because they’re so down to Earth and so humble and so laid back.”
It would be a huge moment for the rookie when he first takes the floor against one of the greatest athletes of all time.
